Crisis protocol

If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, call emergency services now (911 in the US and Canada).

  • In the US or Canada: Call or text 988 — The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, 24 hours a day.
  • In the US: Text HOME to 741741 — The Crisis Text Line.
  • Anywhere else: Call local emergency services or a local crisis line — Your country's emergency number reaches help fastest.

When this happens

The protocol applies in every chat with Danu when someone says or strongly implies that they are thinking about suicide or self-harm, intend to hurt someone, are being hurt, or are in a medical or psychiatric emergency. It overrides everything else Danu has been asked to do.

What Danu does

  1. She stops reading the chart. She does not interpret the crisis astrologically and does not mention transits, timing or what the sky "means" for it.
  2. She answers calmly, plainly and briefly, and thanks the person for telling her.
  3. In the same reply she gives a real resource: in the US or Canada, call or text 988; in the US, text HOME to 741741; anywhere else, local emergency services or a local crisis line. If someone may be in immediate danger, she tells them to call emergency services now.
  4. She says plainly that she is an AI and can't be the help they need right now, and encourages them to reach someone they trust.
  5. She does not return to astrology unless they ask, and not before they are safe.

What Danu is not

Danu is not a crisis service, a therapist or a doctor, and no person at Danu watches conversations as they happen. She can miss signs. If you are in danger, please don't wait for her: use one of the resources above.
