Accessibility
Last reviewed 2026-10-14
Danu should work with the device, display and assistive technology you already use. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. This page says what we check, what we don't check yet, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
What we check
Every proposed change to Danu runs automated accessibility checks. They render the real code for these screens and test them against the WCAG 2.1 level A and AA rules in axe-core:
- Chat: a conversation, a reply arriving, the free-message limit, a message that failed to send, the conversation list and closing a conversation.
- Today: the daily read, the evidence behind it, a hunch, the navigation menu and a read that could not load.
- Birth data: the form, place search, entering coordinates instead, an error and editing a range of birth times.
- Circle: your circle, an empty circle and an invite link.
- Couple: inviting a partner, the first look after linking, unlinking and the Couple plan offer.
Each screen is checked in both palettes, dark and light, at phone and desktop widths. The same run confirms that form fields have labels, that menus and dialogs move keyboard focus in and hand it back when they close, and that errors and status changes are announced to screen readers.
What we don't check yet
Automated checks find many barriers but not all of them, so we don't claim full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance. Other parts of Danu, including Home, your chart, the shared Couple reading, Learn and Portraits, are not in these checks yet.
Settings that help
- Dark or light palette. Use the palette button at the bottom of any page.
- Text size. Choose Small, Medium, Large or Extra large under Text size in Account. It applies on that device.
- Less motion. When your device asks for reduced motion, Danu's decorative animation turns off.
- Skip to content. The first thing your keyboard reaches on every page.
