Privacy Policy

Danu ("we", "us") is an AI-powered astrology service operated by Akashic Intelligence LLC, the data controller for the information described here. This page describes what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your rights over it. It covers danuastrology.com, the Danu apps, and Danu inside ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps.

What we collect

  • Account identifiers. Email address, name, and OAuth identifiers via Clerk (our authentication provider).
  • Birth data. Date, time, and place of birth — the latitude, longitude, and timezone you select or that we derive from the place name you pick. Used to compute and store your natal chart.
  • Your natal chart. A computed JSON document of your planetary placements, angles, and house cusps. Derived from your birth data.
  • Conversation content. The messages you send to Danu and the responses Danu generates. Stored under your user account.
  • Memory metadata. Timestamps, importance flags, transit anchors, threads, decisions you record, and circle members you add — the structured memory that lets Danu refer back to prior conversations.
  • Couple links. If you use the Couple plan to link with a partner, we store the link itself (who is linked to whom) and the one-time invites you create or accept. See "Couple links" below for exactly what is and is not shared.
  • Compare invites. If you use Danu in ChatGPT, Claude or another AI app to send a compare link, we store the invite: the name and relationship you gave, its status and its expiry. See "Danu in ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps" below.
  • Daily insights. Each daily insight Danu generates for you.
  • Product analytics. A fixed, closed list of first-party, cookieless usage events, recorded on our own servers: page visits, steps toward signing up and subscribing, and milestones in using Danu. See "Analytics" below for the categories and exactly what each event stores.
  • Service telemetry. Standard server logs (IP, user agent, request path, status code, latency). No conversation content is included in these logs.
  • Marketing leads (pre-auth email capture). If you ask the public teaser to email you your sky, we store your email address, the display strings shown in that reading (your big-three signs and the single "right now" line), and an anonymous session id / any referral code — never your birth date, time, or place. We use it to send that reading and, unless you unsubscribe, up to two short follow-ups about your sky. Every one of those emails has a one-click unsubscribe, and you can email us to delete the record.

What we don't collect

  • We do not sell or rent your data to third parties.
  • We do not train Danu's underlying language models on your conversations or chart data.
  • We do not run advertising or share data with ad networks.
  • We do not use any third-party analytics service, tracking pixels, or advertising identifiers (see "Analytics" below).

Third-party processors

  • Clerk — Authentication. Handles your password and OAuth tokens.
  • Stripe — Payment processing for paid subscriptions. Stripe handles your payment-card details and billing; we do not store your full card number. See Stripe's privacy policy for how it processes payment data.
  • Anthropic — The LLM provider that generates Danu's replies. Your conversation content and a redacted system prompt (your chart + active transits + a small slice of memory) are sent to Anthropic for inference. Anthropic does not use API requests for model training by default. If you use Danu inside Claude, the results Danu returns to Claude are processed by Anthropic under Anthropic's own privacy policy. See "Danu in ChatGPT and Claude" below.
  • Neon — Managed Postgres. Stores everything described under "What we collect" except your password (which lives at Clerk).
  • Vercel — Hosting and CDN for the Danu web app.
  • Google Cloud Run — Hosts the chart computation service (a stateless service that turns birth data into chart placements; no user data is persisted there).
  • OpenAI — Two uses:
    • Memory search. So Danu can recall related moments from earlier conversations, the text of moments saved from your conversations and readings, and the message you are asking about, is sent to OpenAI's embeddings service. It returns a list of numbers representing the text, which we store in our own database. OpenAI does not use API requests for model training by default.
    • Danu in ChatGPT. If you use Danu inside ChatGPT, the results Danu returns to ChatGPT are processed by OpenAI under OpenAI's own privacy policy. See "Danu in ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps" below.
  • Resend — Email delivery. Receives your email address, your name and the content of the emails we send you, such as a reading or a receipt for a purchase.
  • Sentry — Error monitoring. When something breaks, technical details of the error (what failed, the page or request involved, and browser and device type) are sent to Sentry. Automatic collection of personal information and session recording are turned off.
  • Mapbox and OpenStreetMap Nominatim — Place-name search when you enter a birthplace. We send only the place text you type, from our server; neither service sees your IP address or browser.
  • Voice providers (ElevenLabs and OpenAI) — Only if you use voice features. Text Danu reads aloud is sent to the speech provider to produce audio, and audio you record is sent to OpenAI to be transcribed.
  • Push notification services — Only if you turn on notifications. Your browser or device maker (for example Apple, Google or Mozilla) delivers the notification. Web notifications are encrypted so the push service can't read them.

Retention

We keep your account data for as long as you have an active account. When you delete your account (see "Your rights"), we remove everything we have about you from our Postgres within minutes, and your Clerk login is deleted in the same flow. Backups roll off on a normal cadence (typically 7 days for point-in-time recovery via Neon).

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • See your data — visit /account and click "Download my data" to receive a JSON export of everything we have about you.
  • Delete your data — visit /account and click "Delete my account". This is irreversible.
  • Correct your data — re-enter your birth data at any time from /account; the new chart replaces the old one.
  • Limit our use of sensitive data — your birth time and precise birth location are treated as sensitive personal information. We use them only to compute and maintain your chart, and we never sell or share them.
  • Ask us anything else — email hello@danuastrology.com.

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising — so there is nothing to opt out of on that front. You will never be treated differently for exercising any of these rights.

For requests that can't be completed self-service in /account, email us at the address above. We'll acknowledge your request within 10 days and complete it within 45 days (we may extend once where the law allows, and we'll tell you if we do). To protect your data, we'll first confirm the request comes from you, through the account the data belongs to.

If you're in California you have these rights under the CCPA/CPRA; if you're in the EU/UK you have parallel rights under GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We honor those requests through the same email address.

Couple links (the Couple plan)

The Couple plan lets two Danu users link their charts so Danu can read them as a pair. Linking is mutual and consent-based: one person sends a private, one-time invite link, and nothing is shared until the other person is signed in and explicitly accepts.

While a link is active, and only while it is active, the two linked accounts share:

  • Each other's natal chart, so Danu can compute your synastry and a shared relationship reading that both of you can open.

A couple link never shares:

  • your conversations with Danu, your saved items, your receipts or verdicts, your decisions, or your private daily readings.

Either person can unlink at any time, from /couple. Unlinking takes effect immediately — Danu stops reading you as a pair and stops sharing your charts on the next request. Deleting your account also severs any link, after which your former partner reverts to their individual plan. Your data export (see "Your rights") includes your links and the invites you created or accepted.

Danu in ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps

You can use Danu inside ChatGPT, inside Claude, and in other AI apps that connect to Danu's MCP server, for example through Smithery. Anything you type there, including birth details you give it, is handled by that app's provider (OpenAI for ChatGPT, Anthropic for Claude) under their own privacy policies, not this one. This section covers what Danu does with what reaches us. "The assistant" below means ChatGPT, Claude or the other app. Other apps connect through https://danuastrology.com/mcp/connect, which asks you to link your Danu account before anything else. If you connect through Smithery, your requests and Danu's replies pass through Smithery under its own privacy policy.

  • Quick compare (no Danu account). The assistant sends us the two names, birth dates, optional birth times and birthplaces you gave it. We compute both charts and return first names, roles, signs and aspects. We don't save the names, birth dates, birth times or charts. Two short-lived operational records remain: the birthplace text and the place it matched are cached for up to 30 days so repeat lookups don't hit our place-search provider again, and your network address is kept for up to 3 days only to limit how many charts can be computed in a short window.
  • Linking your Danu account. Linking signs you in to Danu through Clerk and gives the assistant a token tied to your Danu account. Danu then returns to the assistant what each request needs: your first name and chart highlights, your Circle members' names, roles and chart contacts, and current transits. We never return birth dates or birth times, your conversations with Danu, or your saved items. When you describe what is going on between you and someone, that description is used for that one reply and not stored. Unlink any time in the assistant's settings; deleting your Danu account also ends the link.
  • Adding someone. If you ask Danu in the assistant to add a person, their birth details are saved to your Circle, exactly as if you added them on Danu. The reply names the birthplace we matched so you can check it.
  • Compare links. A compare link is single-use and expires. The person who opens it enters their own birth details and must tick a consent box before anything is saved; you must be 16 or older to use one. Their details are then saved to the sender's Circle, and the sender can see their chart. The person can ask the sender to remove them, or email us and we will.
  • Share cards. A Circle share card is a public link anyone who has it can open. It shows only first names, roles and a short group read: no birth data, no account ids. We don't store it: the link itself carries the card, and it stops working after 180 days.

Analytics

We measure how the product is used with first-party, cookieless analytics — no third-party analytics service, no tracking pixels, no advertising identifiers. Our servers accept only events from a fixed, closed list. They fall into these groups:

  • Visits. A page view on our public pages, with the page, the website that sent you (its domain only, never the full address), any campaign tags in the link (such as utm_source), whether you opened the link inside another app's built-in browser, which version of the homepage headline you saw when we're testing two, and which sections of a page you scrolled to.
  • Trying Danu before signing up. Starting and finishing the free chart preview, asking for it by email, and pressing a button that starts sign-up.
  • Signing up and getting started. Completing sign-up and onboarding, the goals you chose to share (or that you skipped), your first reading, first chat message and first save.
  • Plans and payments. Viewing pricing or a plan offer, starting checkout, a subscription starting, a payment going through, a refund, a cancellation, a failed payment being fixed, a Couple link forming, and a referral turning into a subscription.
  • Using features. Danu saving a reading and whether you marked it as landing, opening the evidence behind a reading ("Why this?"), dares and how you responded, sharing, exploring Figures, comparing charts, opening Memory, installing the app to your home screen, and turning notifications on.

Each event stores the event name, a timestamp, a random anonymous id kept in your browser's local storage, your account id once you're signed in, and a little context such as which page, button or plan it came from. When you sign up, your earlier events from that browser are linked to your account through the anonymous id, so we can see which page or preview led you to Danu. We never put conversation content, chart data or birth data into these events.

This data lives in our own Postgres alongside your account data — it is not sent to any analytics vendor, not sold, not shared, and not used to train any model. When you delete your account, your account id is removed from these events; the random browser id that stays on them isn't linked to your name or email. We use it only to understand where the product helps people and where it gets in the way.

Cookies

We use cookies only where required to keep you signed in (Clerk) and to identify your browser session. Our usage analytics (see "Analytics" above) are cookieless: we do not use analytics cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising trackers.

We do use your browser's local storage, which stays on your device:

  • Preferences and dismissals, such as your theme, text size and prompts you've closed.
  • The chart preview you typed, meaning your name, birth date, time and place, so you don't have to type them again when you sign up. Danu ignores it after seven days, and it is saved to your account only when you finish onboarding.
  • Measurement, meaning the random anonymous id described under "Analytics", the campaign link you arrived from and any referral code in it, so a sign-up can be credited to the visit or friend that led to it.

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of them.

Children

Danu is not intended for users under 16. Do not create an account if you are under 16.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. For material changes (new data we collect, new third parties we share with, new purposes) we'll notify signed-in users in the app.
