Privacy Policy

Danu ("we", "us") is an AI-powered astrology service operated by Akashic Intelligence. This page describes what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your rights over it.

What we collect

  • Account identifiers. Email address, name, and OAuth identifiers via Clerk (our authentication provider).
  • Birth data. Date, time, and place of birth — the latitude, longitude, and timezone you select or that we derive from the place name you pick. Used to compute and store your natal chart.
  • Your natal chart. A computed JSON document of your planetary placements, angles, and house cusps. Derived from your birth data.
  • Conversation content. The messages you send to Danu and the responses Danu generates. Stored under your user account.
  • Memory metadata. Timestamps, importance flags, transit anchors, threads, decisions you record, and circle members you add — the structured memory that lets Danu refer back to prior conversations.
  • Couple links. If you use the Couple plan to link with a partner, we store the link itself (who is linked to whom) and the one-time invites you create or accept. See "Couple links" below for exactly what is and is not shared.
  • Daily insights. Each daily insight Danu generates for you.
  • Product analytics. A small, fixed set of first-party, cookieless usage events — a landing-page view, and when you complete sign-up, finish onboarding, send your first chat message, save your first insight, or share a chart. Recorded on our own servers; see "Analytics" below for exactly what each event stores.
  • Service telemetry. Standard server logs (IP, user agent, request path, status code, latency). No conversation content is included in these logs.
  • Marketing leads (pre-auth email capture). If you ask the public teaser to email you your sky, we store your email address, the display strings shown in that reading (your big-three signs and the single "right now" line), and an anonymous session id / any referral code — never your birth date, time, or place. We use it to send that reading and, unless you unsubscribe, up to two short follow-ups about your sky. Every one of those emails has a one-click unsubscribe, and you can email us to delete the record.

What we don't collect

  • We do not sell or rent your data to third parties.
  • We do not train Danu's underlying language models on your conversations or chart data.
  • We do not run advertising or share data with ad networks.
  • We do not use any third-party analytics service, tracking pixels, or advertising identifiers (see "Analytics" below).

Third-party processors

  • Clerk — Authentication. Handles your password and OAuth tokens.
  • Stripe — Payment processing for paid subscriptions. Stripe handles your payment-card details and billing; we do not store your full card number. See Stripe's privacy policy for how it processes payment data.
  • Anthropic — The LLM provider that generates Danu's replies. Your conversation content and a redacted system prompt (your chart + active transits + a small slice of memory) are sent to Anthropic for inference. Anthropic does not use API requests for model training by default.
  • Neon — Managed Postgres. Stores everything described under "What we collect" except your password (which lives at Clerk).
  • Vercel — Hosting and CDN for the Danu web app.
  • Google Cloud Run — Hosts the chart computation service (a stateless service that turns birth data into chart placements; no user data is persisted there).
  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim — Place-name search during onboarding. We proxy these requests through our server; OSM sees our server's User-Agent, not yours.

Retention

We keep your account data for as long as you have an active account. When you delete your account (see "Your rights"), we remove everything we have about you from our Postgres within minutes, and your Clerk login is deleted in the same flow. Backups roll off on a normal cadence (typically 7 days for point-in-time recovery via Neon).

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • See your data — visit /account and click "Download my data" to receive a JSON export of everything we have about you.
  • Delete your data — visit /account and click "Delete my account". This is irreversible.
  • Correct your data — re-enter your birth data at any time from /account; the new chart replaces the old one.
  • Limit our use of sensitive data — your birth time and precise birth location are treated as sensitive personal information. We use them only to compute and maintain your chart, and we never sell or share them.
  • Ask us anything else — email hello@danuastrology.com.

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising — so there is nothing to opt out of on that front. You will never be treated differently for exercising any of these rights.

For requests that can't be completed self-service in /account, email us at the address above. We'll acknowledge your request within 10 days and complete it within 45 days (we may extend once where the law allows, and we'll tell you if we do). To protect your data, we'll first confirm the request comes from you, through the account the data belongs to.

If you're in California you have these rights under the CCPA/CPRA; if you're in the EU/UK you have parallel rights under GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We honor those requests through the same email address.

Couple links (the Couple plan)

The Couple plan lets two Danu users link their charts so Danu can read them as a pair. Linking is mutual and consent-based: one person sends a private, one-time invite link, and nothing is shared until the other person is signed in and explicitly accepts.

While a link is active, and only while it is active, the two linked accounts share:

  • Each other's natal chart, so Danu can compute your synastry and a shared relationship reading that both of you can open.

A couple link never shares:

  • your conversations with Danu, your saved items, your receipts or verdicts, your decisions, or your private daily readings.

Either person can unlink at any time, from /couple. Unlinking takes effect immediately — Danu stops reading you as a pair and stops sharing your charts on the next request. Deleting your account also severs any link, after which your former partner reverts to their individual plan. Your data export (see "Your rights") includes your links and the invites you created or accepted.

Analytics

We measure how the product is used with first-party, cookieless analytics — no third-party analytics service, no tracking pixels, no advertising identifiers. We record a small, fixed set of funnel events on our own servers: a landing-page view, sign-up completion, onboarding completion, your first chat message, your first saved insight, and a chart share. Each event stores the event name, a timestamp, your account id (or, before you sign in, a short-lived anonymous session id), and minimal context such as which page or surface it came from. We never put conversation content, chart data, or birth data into these events.

This data lives in our own Postgres alongside your account data — it is not sent to any analytics vendor, not sold, not shared, and not used to train any model. When you delete your account, your account id is removed from these events, de-identifying them. We use it only to understand where the product helps people and where it gets in the way.

Cookies

We use cookies only where required to keep you signed in (Clerk) and to identify your browser session. Our usage analytics (see "Analytics" above) are cookieless: we do not use analytics cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising trackers.

Children

Danu is not intended for users under 16. Do not create an account if you are under 16.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. For material changes (new data we collect, new third parties we share with, new purposes) we'll notify signed-in users in the app.
